2017 sees the Hospice celebrate 25 years of in-patient care at our Finchley site, and in honour of this wonderful milestone, we are pulling out all of the stops to ensure that this is the biggest and best Big Fun Walk yet!

The Big Fun Walk follows an 8½ mile route from the forecourt of East Finchley underground station through Cherry Tree Wood, Highgate Woods, Primrose Hill and Regents Park, finishing in Storey’s Gate, Westminster.

Check in at East Finchley is between 9.00 – 10.15 am. Please do not aim to arrive before 9.00am.

To speed up the check-in process, this year we have made some small improvements. Before the event we will send everybody who has registered a special North London Hospice Big Fun Walk wristband (groups will receive one wristband for every member of that group). When you arrive at East Finchley you will show your wristband to one of our stewards who will then give you your goodie bag and maps. You can then begin the walk! To receive your free sandwich lunch, simply show the wristband to the wonderful team at Soho Sandwiches who will be setting up their stall in Regents Park.

If there are queues at the check-in, please be patient as our volunteers are working hard to see you all off to a cheerful start as quickly as possible. Please remember to bring your wristband. If you forget, you may have to queue for longer while we verify your registration.

After check in, try and find one of our face painters who will be amongst the crowd (wearing hi-vis vests) they will happily decorate you with the iconic Big Fun Walk Feet, the trademark of the event! Cross the road to Cherry Tree Wood and you are on your way. Along the route there are marshals wearing hi-vis vests.

At Primrose Hill we will be encouraging everybody to take part in a photograph competition with themes and prizes to be confirmed!

We will stop for lunch, provided by Soho Sandwiches, at Regent’s Park. You will be given a sandwich, a piece of fruit and if required, another bottle of water. (Lunch stop will be open between 11.45am and 1.15pm). Please note: We cannot cater for specialist dietary requirements like Kosher, Halal, Paleo, gluten/dairy free etc. Please bring your own lunch if you need to.

The finish point is at Storey’s Gate, Westminster (open from 1.30pm until 4pm). There you will be greeted by our celebration team, receive your souvenir medal, and receive a hot drink and a pastry from our catering tables. There will be live musical entertainment and the chance to indulge in a holistic chair massage. Our generous massage therapists are providing these massages at no cost to North London Hospice. They will ask you to pay what you feel the massage was worth, they are then passing all the funds raised onto North London Hospice as a donation.

The majority of walkers reach the end by 3pm but we are more than happy for people to stay and revel in the wonderful celebratory atmosphere that will be created at the finish.
